university assignment, 2025

The Swan Song is a 2D animation set inside the palace of a Countess. The film focuses on her relationship with this place, marked by time, memory, and the traces of what it once was. As she moves through the palace, past and present momentarily meet, giving shape to a brief and symbolic dance that defines the tone of the story.
This project was my first experience creating an animation and it was developed while I was in my Erasmus. I developed the concept, storyboard, character design, and final animation.
With The Swan Song, my goal was to explore how beauty, nostalgia, and decay can coexist visually, creating an emotional atmosphere through music.

the creative process

For the character design, I began by sketching the Countess and supporting figures in Procreate, experimenting with poses and expressions to capture their personalities. These sketches were then refined and vectorized in Adobe Illustrator to ensure clean and consistent linework for animation.

The set designs were conceptualized through hand-drawn sketches taken from the storyboard, then I utilized Recraft AI to render some compositions I used as a base, and then refined in Photoshop, enhancing the textures, composition, and visual details to achieve the final look.
